Trenton Flooring and Furniture is the operating company for GW, Inc. a subchapter "S" corporation. The business is owned by George & Ruth Wallace, both Maine natives now residing in Veazie, Me.  Their son, Wright is the General Manager, however, George & Ruth are still active in the operation of the business. George was born in Millinocket, Me. A graduate of Stearns High School, Husson College: B. S. in Accounting; The Univ. of Maine; MBA. Ruth was born in Bradford, Me. A graduate of Higgins Classical Institute and had been active in the communications business prior to our acquisition of this business. HISTORY On March 14, 1983 we purchased the business known as The Bargain Barn located within sight of the bridge entering Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park.  At that time the business consisted of mostly used merchandise, some antiques and a spattering of new furniture and carpet.  The yard surrounding the building had a collection of used doors, windows, stoves,refrigerators,and miscellaneous items too numerous to list. The business also operated a bottle and can redemtion center in a room at the side of the building. Gradually, changes were made.  The items in the yard which did not sell within a few years of our acquisition were loaded and hauled away by a local trucker.  After disposing of the "junk" we had a local contractor fill in and grade the yard around the building. The in store inventory now consists of all new furniture, carpet and mattresses. In 1992 we constructed a 30 x 60 ft. addition with a second level in order to provide for an expanding sales inventory.  Three years later warehouse space was needed and we constructed a 30 x 84 ft. addition with an upper sales floor.  In 1998 we disposed of the bottle and can redemtion center and changed the name of the business from The Bargain Barn to Trenton Flooring and Furniture. In the spring of the year 2000 the original canopy at the front of the building was removed and replaced by a modern showroom type addition and the parking lot at the front of the building was repaved. WE are now a major supplier of furniture and carpet to Ellsworth, Mt. Desert Island and the surrounding areas.
